Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
